The Jieyu Chair is a seating object that embeds a unique cultural memory. A traditional Han garment on the chair frame serves as the upholstery of the seat. As the user leaves the seat, they can easily put on the garment, letting the folded fabric on the seat slowly slip away and leaving only the bones of the chair. The narrative of the chair originates from the poetries of Jieyu Ban that depicted a symbol of a historic Chinese female gender experience. The Jieyu Chair and its performative process attempts to dissect and recreate this symbol and establish an alternative story based on a today's female's perspective.
